Surfaces to be worked on must be free of dirt, dust, grease, and other contaminants. For joint repairs, use a chisel to remove the damaged mortar without harming the surronding masonry. Clean to a depth 2 to 2 ½ times the width of the joint reaching the sound mortar. For other repairs, roughen the surface and remove loose pieces or dust. Clean the area with a low-pressure water jet and dampen the surface before application, avoiding water pooling.

Start by pouring 4 L (1.05 US gal) of clean, potable water per 30 kg (66 lb) bag in a clean container. Gradually add the dry ingredients while mixing with a drill fitted with a mortar-mixer. Mix thoroughly until a uniform mixture is acheived. If the mixture is too thick, add a little water at a time, taking care not to thin it out too much [the maximum amount of water is 4.2 L (1.1 US gal) per 30 kg (66 lb) bag].

For laying bricks and concrete blocks, apply the mortar to their ends before placing them, ensure a thickness of 12–15 mm (½ in–¾ in). Tap to position and be sure to level. For filling joints and cracks, use a pointing trowel to press the mortar into place in 3 even layers, allowing each to dry before re-wetting. Avoid leaving voids. As a general rule, the joint is considered ready to be tooled when the mortar has hardened sufficiently such that a finger mark remains. Unless otherwise stated, a concave joint is preferred.

Protect the mortar from freezing, rain, sun, and wind during the first 72 hours. Ensure the ambient, surface and product temperature are between 5 °C (40 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F) during application and for 72 hours afterward.

Clean all tools and equipment immediately after use with water. Once hardened, material can only be removed manually or mechanically.
